A Song of the Ascents. Many times they fought against me from my youth — let Israel now say.
"From my youth they have greatly persecuted me" — let Israel now say.
2
Many times they fought against me from my youth, yet they did not prevail against me.
"From my youth they have greatly persecuted me, but they did not prevail."
3
Upon my back the **sinners** (ἁμαρτωλοί) plowed; they prolonged their **anomia** (ἀνομίαν).
Upon my back the sinners (ἁμαρτωλοί) wrought, they prolonged their anomia (ἀνομίαν).
4
The LORD is righteous; he has cut down the necks of sinners.
The Tetragrammaton is righteous: the Tetragrammaton has broken the yoke of the impious (ἀσεβῶν).
5
Let all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned back.
Let them be confounded and turned back, all who hate Zion.
6
Let them become as grass on the housetops, which withers before it is plucked up.
Let them be as the grass on the rooftops, which withers before it is plucked up.
7
With which the reaper does not fill his hand, nor he who gathers sheaves his bosom.
With which the reaper does not fill his hand, nor the gatherer of sheaves his bosom.
8
And the passers-by do not say: "The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD."
The passers-by cannot say: "The blessing of the Tetragrammaton be upon you, we bless you in the name of the Tetragrammaton."
